American Empire Period Arm Chair Circa 1815
Description: American or European Empire Period Painted Arm Chair, Circa 1815; Secondary woods: white oak, chestnut, and pine. Wood analysis by Forest Products Laboratory, USDA, March 2012. This chair is typically a European form, and the figure heads appear to be Scandinavian; however, the woods used in this chair are those used in American pieces from this time period, though the style is not. It may be that this chair was made in America by a craftsman who had recently arrived from Europe.
